Reformed Theology is known with its biblical, Trinitarian, Christo-centric, and covenantal understanding of the doctrine of salvation (soteriology) which is rooted and founded upon the Bible as the inerrant and infallible Word of God.

This soteriology finds its finest expression in the Canon of Dort, formulated by the 17th century Reformed theologians from various European countries, who were gathered by the State General of the Dutch Republic in the city of Dordrecht, Netherlands from November 1618 to May 1619, in order to solve the theological disputations caused by the teaching of James Arminius (1560-1609), a professor of theology from Leiden university.

The 5 head of the doctrines in the Canon of Dort with their respective positive and negative statement are known in the United States with abbreviation TULIP which is Total depravity, the Unconditional election, the Limited atonement, the irresistible grace, and the Perseverance of the saints.
